Home Cure for Urticaria

Utricaria is a term used synonymously for the condition called 'hives' or 'nettle-rash'. Utricaria is allergic in origin with is characterized by redness, itching, eruptions on any part of the body which are irregular (each welt can be 0. 2 inch in diameter and is often surrounded with a pale border). The lasting of these eruptions vary among different individuals from some hours to some days to some weeks; however each welt should not last for more than 24 hours.

A hallmark characteristic of hives is that the swellings change size rapidly and move around like disappearing form one site and appearing on the other in just few hours. It is estimated that this condition can occur to 15-25 % of the general population sooner or later in their lives over the world. Stress, allergy to some foods, alcoholic beverages, warmth, scratching or exercises may worsen the itching and redness.

Urticaria is rarely medically serious. Although the swelling, itch and pain can be very annoying it tends to resolve on its own with some care over a period of weeks. Maintaining a diary to note down foods that cause any allergic reaction would be very helpful and it would be wise to eliminate those food items from the diet till the symptoms subside completely. Special care should be taken while eating food out in a restaurant as sometimes it can be in a hidden form. Also make a habit to read labels before buying any packed foods. Check your medications or talk to your specialist about the medications you are taking as these can sometimes be the triggering factor to cause the allergic reaction.
