Causes and Treatment for Ringworm

Ringworm is a type fungal infection that invades on the exterior of the skin, scalp or nails but it can not cause any harm to the internal organs. Goiter is a condition caused due to swelling of the thyroid gland in the neck largely due to iodine deficiency in the diet. Having ringworm is not a sign of having goiter.

You can try the following remedies at home for ringworm, but if you suspect goiter consult a specialist (endocrinologist) immediately to correct any hormonal imbalance:

  • Cut and peel a fresh raw papaya and rub the inner skin on the skin affected with ringworm twice daily to get rid of the infection.
  • Make a fine powder by grinding mustard seeds, and then add water to this powder to make a smooth paste. Apply this paste regularly on the affected areas to get rid of ringworm.

  • Grind fresh holy basil with few drops of water to extract juice. Apply this on the infected skin with ringworm; it will work wonders to fight the infection.
  • Keep your skin clean and sweat free as far as possible, take bath with luke warm water 2-3 times daily and pat the skin dry. This will help prevent itching and further spreading of the infection. As this infection is highly contagious and can easily spread wear washed clean loose fitted cotton/linen clothes.
