Sinus infection and headache cures

What can I take to relieve the sinus pressure due to a sinus infection and relieve the headache?
(28 Mar 2008)

Acute sinusitis tends to develop after a cold or other viral infection. If you also have a fever, swollen eyelids, double vision or if you have a greenish, yellowish discharge, it is recommended that you see a doctor.

Some natural remedies to help relieve pressure and a headache due to sinusitis are listed below:
  • Keep your nostrils moisturized.

Try using a simple saline nasal spray. You can add baking soda to the saline to lessen irritation.U
  • Use a vapourizer and inhale steam. You can add some essential oils to the vapourizer for greater relief. Oils to try are eucalyptus, lavender or sandalwood essential oils.
  • Massaging some points known as acupressure points may give your relief from facial pain and headaches. With your right thumb and index finger, press the space between your left thumb and index finger at the point where it makes a V shape. Repeat the procedure alternating your hands.
  • Eating spicy food helps unclog sinuses. You can order some curry from an Indian restaurant or simply sprinkle chilli flakes over your food.
In the long term, getting the right kind of food and plenty of rest will help reduce the severity of the problem.
