Peptic ulcer treatment The symptoms of a peptic ulcer are a burning pain or dull ache in the abdominal region that starts 2-3 hours after you have eaten. It may happen in the middle of the night when your stomach is empty and may be relieved by eating something. In addition to these symptoms if you are losing weight, losing your appetite or feel nauseated often, you may need to get yourself checked up for a peptic ulcer.
All of the following may cause or aggravate ulcers:
- alcohol and cigarettes
- aspirin
- spicy, fatty, and/or acidic foods
- tea and coffee
There are ways to ease the symptoms of peptic ulcers that I am listing below:
- A bacteria called H-Pylori is implicated in the development of peptic ulcers. Treating this bacteria with antibiotics may solve the problem in some cases
- Milk and milk products although traditionally said to be good for ulcers are not actually so as in large quantities they cause greater secretion of acids
- Adding oats, whole wheat products and fibrous vegetables like cabbage to your diet will give you healthy quantities of fiber, which can help with the problem
- Doing breathing exercises and meditation to battles stress may help as stress is said to make ulcers worse.
- Foods containing flavonoids, such as apples, carrots and onions hekp battle the H-pylori bacteria.
The following supplements are also said to be useful for peptic ulcers:
- GLA ( Gamma Linoleic Acid)
- Omega 3 Fatty acids
- Probiotics
- Astralagus
- Slippery Elm
- Curcumin ( A turmeric extract)
- Bilberry
- Garlic
- Licorice
When you have so clearly identified your trigger foods, then you just need to develop the will power to stay away from them. You need to ask yourself if the transient pleasure you get from eating these foods is worth the pain and inconvenience you experience afterwards.
