Home remedies for fair skin Being fair or dark is due in a large part to genetics. Some amount of skin darkening is due to exposure to the sun and this may be reversed, but there is no method to become fairer than the colour that you were born with.
Staying out of the sun is one of the fist precautions to take.
When you venture out, try not to do so between 10 AM and 2 PM, because sun rays are most damaging during this period. Carry an umbrella or wear a wide brimmed hat. This however is not sufficient protection. A sunscreen of minimum SPF of 20 will ward off damage, but must be reapplied every 3 hours or so. Do make sure that your sun screen protects from both UV –A rays and UV-B rays. UV-A rays especially cause tanning.
Tomato juice is said to be effective in removing a tan. As soon as you come in from the sun, wash your face with cool water and apply some tomato juice to your face or rub some tomato slices over exposed skin. Cucumber juice is also said to help remove tan. A face pack containing turmeric and sandal wood paste in rose water is said to be good for a glowing complexion.
More than the colour of the skin, what matters is how healthy and glowing the complexion is. Eat healthy and get plenty of sleep in addition to the measures listed above and your skin will thank you for it. Please don't use fairness creams or products containing bleach. In the long term these damage your skin and cause further darkening.
