Eczema alternative cures

I have eczema and I cannot stop itching. I itch until I bleed. How can I stop, or what can I do to help?

Eczema alternative cures 

Scratching tends to activate parts of the brain which help reduce unpleasant feelings. This is why we cannot stop scratching once we have started. First, cut your nails straight across and as short as possible.


Otherwise you can hurt yourself from scratching too much.

  • To help with the itchy feeling try applying a cold milk compress. Dip a gauze pad in the milk and apply it to the affected area
  • Wear natural fabrics or try and leave the area bare as much as possible.


  • While bathing use lukewarm water, rather than hot or cold water.
  • After bathing use a rich cream rather than a watery lotion to hold in the moisture. Avoid creams containing lanolin
  • Try and use creams containing urea on the itchy skin
  • Try adding colloidal oatmeal to your bath or even using oatmeal as a soap substitute. Use it like a scrub and wash it off. The chemicals in soap can be harsh and may dry your skin out
  • Humidify your environment either with a humidifier or by keeping indoor plants. Also avoid sudden changes in temperature
  • Avoid antiperspirants. In fact try and avoid using products containing chemicals on your skin. Wherever possible use natural and herbal alternatives.
  • Rinse your clothes out properly to ensure that all traces of detergent are washed off. Detergent can irritate the skin.
  • Supplement with EFAs(Essential Fatty Acids). Gamma Linoleic Acid present in evening primrose and borage oil and Omega 3 fats to be found in fish oil and flax seed oil are some of the supplements to take.
  • Herbs said to be good for eczema include burdock, red clover and nettle. You can make an infusion of these herbs and drink it.
  • Creams or lotions containing Chamomile, Calendula, St John's Wort or Goldenseal may be applied
  • You can try maintaining a food diary to see if you suffer flare ups after eating any particular kind of food. See if eliminating that food stuff helps you. Also try and be aware of environmental allergens that aggravate the problem and eliminate them as far as possible.
