Swollen feet natural cures

Swelling or edema in the feet in the normal course may be caused by water retention, air travel or sitting for long periods of time. Some medical conditions also cause edema and are listed here:

  • Anemia
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Low protein level in blood
  • Menstrual cycles
  • Thyroid disease
  • Certain kinds of medication

Here are some natural remedies to help reduce swelling:

  • Keep your feet elevated while sitting for long periods
  • Try a low carb diet for a couple of weeks. This acts as a natural diuretic and reduces water retention
  • Reduce your salt intake.

    Avoid eating overly salty snacks.
  • Try going for a swim. Exercising in water may help reduce edema
  • Increase your fluid intake. Try and get lots of water instead of coffee or sugary drinks.
  • Sip on herbal teas. Teas containing parsley may be particularly beneficial.
  • Put your feet up on a pillow while sleeping at night.
  • Exercise regularly. Going for a brisk walk will get your circulation going and help reduce swelling.
  • Papaya tablets and garlic tablets are said to be good natural diuretics.
  • You can also apply some mustard oil to the swollen feet.
