Jock itch natural remedies

Jock itch is caused by a fungus called Trichophyton rubrum which flourishes in moist and warm conditions. It typically affects the groin area, thus the name. The important thing to do is to not provide hospitable conditions for the infection to multiply.

Here are some measures you can take:

  • Wear loose fitting cotton under garments. Don't wear anything synthetic or crotch hugging
  • Towel dry the groin area thoroughly after a bath. You can even use a hair drier, but set it to warm and not to hot.

  • Apply some baby powder or anti-bacterial powder to the area, especially in the creases
  • Change out of sweaty clothes after a work out. If you live in a humid area, change your underclothes twice a day.
  • Teatree oil is a good antifungal and can be applied to the area after diluting it with some mineral oil.
  • Consuming garlic and Olive leaf extract may also help as they are both good anti fungals
  • Try wearing cotton boxers instead of briefs until the infection recedes.

Also try and avoid yeasty foods such as bread, other baked goods and alcohol as they may promote a fungal infection. Once the infection has cleaned up, avoid sharing towels and trousers with other people and keep the area clean and dry o prevent a recurrence.
