Eye bags remedies

Puffiness under the eyes may be caused by lack of sleep, water retention, allergic reactions or due to the natural process of ageing. Water retention is sometimes caused by getting too much salt through your diet. You can try cutting down on your salt intake and use a natural diuretic like papaya or garlic tablets to help solve the problem.

Drink lots of fluids during the course of the day but not before bedtime

Puffiness may also be caused by excessive intake of alcohol. Try and reduce your alcohol intake and when you do take a drink, match every glass of wine with a glass of water.

Here are some natural remedies for puffy eyes

  • Place potato slices, cucumber slices or cotton wool soaked in potato/cucumber juice over your eyes and leave them on for about 15 minutes.

  • Splash your face with cold water first thing in the morning
  • Avoid using anti ageing or anti wrinkle creams around the eyes.
  • Do not apply rich moisturizers in the eye region at night
  • Switch to gel based make up and creams
  • You can use wet tea bags on your eyes. The tannin in the tea helps reduce puffiness.
  • Elevate the head of your bed
  • Use a hemorrhoid cream in the under eye region. They help reduce over all puffiness.

For emergencies, leave a teaspoon in the fridge for a few minutes and apply against your eyelids for a couple of minutes. You can also use a can that has been refrigerated.   You can also use a concealer to decrease the appearance of puffiness.
