Blood shot home cures

Colds, viral infections, allergies, lack of sleep or irritation because of some chemical substance may cause blood shot eyes. If the problem is chronic or does not heal in 4-5 days, it  may be on account of a bacterial infection or uveitis in which case, you will need to consult an eye specialist.

Some simple home remedies for blood shot eyes are listed below:

  • If your eyes are irritated but not inflamed use a warm compress over closed eyes.

  • For inflamed eyes use a cold compress.
  • Placing a warm wet tea bag over closed eyes for 15 minutes is also said to be beneficial
  • If your eyes feel dry and sting try using artificial tears to water them .Never pour water directly into eyes.

Water is very different in composition from tears and may irritate the eyes.
  • Don't wear contacts for a while. And use and clean your contacts as prescribed by a doctor.
  • Don't cover the eyes. That raises the temperature around the eyes encouraging bacteria to grow.
  • If you have a discharge that is causing you discomfort, you can make up an eye wash with one part of baby shampoo in ten parts of water. Use a cotton ball dipped in this solution to clean the discharge while keeping the eye closed.

And most importantly get enough sleep. Your eyes may just be reacting to too much stress and fatigue.
