Cold and cough natural remedies

A persistent cough may be the result of an allergy or an irritated throat. You can try these remedies for a cough to help soothe your throat:

  • Gargle with salt water and suck on something sweet like a hard candy or a lozenge. This will keep your throat moist and help with the cough
  • Drink a mixture of ginger juice and honey after warming it a little
  • Try using a vapourizer in your room.

Add some Vicks vaporub to the water in the vaporizer. This will humidify the room and the Vicks Vaporub will help soothe both the cold and the cough.

There are also some general natural remedies for a flowing nose which I am listing below:

  • Take a Vitamin C supplement at a dose of 1-2 gms per day
  • Eat spicy foods. Spicy foods will make your nose run some more to begin with but may get rid of the irritants in the process
  • OTC menthol inhalers may help dry out your nose to some degree
  • If the nose around your skin is not inflamed try rubbing some Vicks Vaporub. That may slow down the drip.

If you need to be presentable in an emergency then you can try OTC drugs to stop the flow, but these must not be taken for a period greater than 3 days as prolonged use is not good for health.
