Natural Treatment for Injured Eyes

The first thing to do after getting injured anywhere near your eye is to apply an ice compress to the area. Wrap a few ice cubes in a flannel cloth and hold them over the bruised eye. A cold soda can or a bag of frozen vegetables will work in the absence of ice.

Using raw steak is a traditional remedy that may not be too useful and is a waste of a perfectly good steak.

After emergency care has been administered you can take the following measures to help the eye heal:

  1. Apply cold compresses for the first 48 hours. Afterwards apply warm compresses.

Am warm compress may simply be a gauze pad dipped in warm water.
  2. Try and avoid blowing your nose forcefully when you have a black eye as it may lead to swelling
  3. Put a couple of pillows under your head to elevate it when you sleep. Also try not to sleep on the side of the hurt eye.
  4. Massage the tissue around the bruised area very gently with the tips of your fingers.
Black eyes do take a certain amount of time to heal. They will go from black to purple to yellow to green and finally fade away. If the black eye doesn't improve in 2 weeks or if you vision is affected speak to your primary health care giver.
