Natural Diet to Lower High  Blood Pressure

Hypertension is the increase in blood pressure. The risk of hypertension is greater with increased sodium and decreased calcium in the diet. It is a silent killer, as the symptoms are undiagnosed for a long duration of time.

Maintaining body weight with reduction in dietary sodium is recommended. Hypertension is not curable, though regulated.

Proper dietary regimen, exercise and lifestyle modification are of great help.

Decreased calcium is associated with hypertension. The recommendation of 1,000 mg is met with. Overweight individuals need to lose weight, which in turn brings about a reduction in the pressure. A diet with around 1,500 mg of sodium, vegetables, fruits, low fat dairy products and complex carbohydrates are advised. Magnesium and potassium levels in the diet are increased.

Whole grains, nuts, fish and poultry are included in the diet. Reduce meats and sweets. Unsalted yoghurt, raw vegetables and unsalted popcorn are effective snacks. Vegetarian meals are helpful. Food labels are read carefully, prior to choosing foods, thereby choosing foods less in sodium. About 7-8 servings of grains and 4-5 servings each of vegetables and fruits are recommended.
