Home Remedies for Bad Gases

Escape of a mixture of gases is referred to as flatus or flatulence. Air swallowed through a straw and bacterial action on meals produce gas. Fermentation of certain foods that hang in the intestine for a longer time results in an offensive odour.

In general, gas has no odour. Flatulogenic foods, such as cabbage, beans, onions, dark beer, prunes, wine and bananas, consumed at regular intervals increases the risk of passing gas. Heredity also plays a vital role.

Emotional disturbances play a vital role in flatulence. A faulty diet rich in tubers and fats result in gas production. Putting pressure on the abdomen or lying face down provides relief from gas. Placing a heating pad on the abdomen is of immense help. Exercises also help. Sit on the ground with the knees bent to the chest. Cover your arms around your legs, holding them tight. Moving front and back this way helps in providing instant relief from flatus. Gassiness is eased by certain medicines comprising of simethicone. Chewing gums and sipping through straws increase the risk of flatulence. Tight clothes are abstained from, as they compress the abdomen, resulting in pain.
