I have had numbness in my thumb for over a week now. It is only my thumb and no other fingers. I woke up with it feeling this way one morning and the feeling has gotten neither better nor worse. What could this mean?

Alternative Treatment for Numb Finger

Numbness or the inability to feel sensation in a particular area is referred to as carpal tunnel syndrome. This is commonly associated with the extremities, namely hand and limbs. Hypothyroidism, arthritis, diabetes, pregnancy and obesity are the common causes of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Improper positioning and repeated usage of the fingers, result in this condition. Compression of the median nerve, which passes across the ligaments and bones, causes numbness. Tingling sensation of the thumb, ring and index finger is seen.

Blockages in energy pathways are removed by acupuncture. Pressure is applied at the acupuncture points to trigger the circulation. This is done by acupressure. Deficiency of pyridoxine is seen to affect carpal tunnel.

Supplementation of vitamin B6 in foods involves the usage of brown rice, avocadoes, sweet potatoes, chick peas, barley, mangoes, chicken, turkey, pork and salmon. Inflammation of the tissues, associated with carpal tunnel is reduced by bromelain and other enzyme supplements. Pineapple is the best source of bromelain. Alternative therapies, such as yoga provides relief. Check out with your physician before opting for any of these remedies, as the severity of the condition needs to be diagnosed.
