Yeast infections are commonly referred to as Candidiasis and are usually caused by a category of microscopic fungi or yeast. There are approximately 20 bacterial species of Candida, the most commonly encountered being Candida albicans. Most women experience yeast infections when there is an overgrowth or imbalance of flora found in the vagina of the women due to changes in the vaginal environment.
Other reasons that can cause vaginal imbalance leading to candida include over use of antibiotic and steroid medications. Other factors that can cause yeast infections are pregnancy, monthly discharge of blood, presence of sperm, menopause, polygenic disease, and contraceptive pills. These factors are major contributors to developing a yeast infection.
Most yeast infections can easily be addressed for, at home, with nonprescription and prescription medicinal drugs and you could be free from the disease within a few days. However, if you have an underlying medical disorder that has already caused an undermined immune system, you must visit your doctor before seeking to treat yourself. You may put yourself at the risk of developing secondary infections. Maintaining vulvovaginal health is the key in ensuring that yeast infections do not recur. It is important to consume plenty of water and eliminate urine as often as possible when you feel the urge to do so, in order to get rid of the bacteria from the urinary tract and eliminate the incidence of yeast infections. Health experts also recommend urinating before and after sex. There are a vast number of home remedies that are believed to treat the infections, ranging from dietary adjustment, prescription medicines such as anti-mycotic agents, to water enema to flush out the colon. Since there is not much evidence of the efficacy of home remedies health experts do not recommend adopting home remedies to deal with the situation.
Stay away from perfumes, colored materials, and fragrant toiletries or products that can aggravate the condition in the vulva/vagina. Sometimes certain disposable absorbent pads, tampons, or toilet tissues can cause irritation to women with yeast infections. Use specialized products formulated for sensitive skin in order to minimize the effects of the infection. Also avoid the use of bubble baths as they contain ingredients that can cause skin aggravation and may lead to worsening of the condition. Speak with your doctor for the best course of treatment depends upon the type of yeast infection for rapid and speedy healing.
