Lactose intolerance advice and cures

Lactose intolerance is an inconvenient condition that is easily remedied. With a good control on your diet, you can co-exist with this condition almost unaffected. The reasons why you have this disorder might be various. It might be congenital, or even caused by secondary causes like certain diseases. The most common cause is environmentally induced, where the society at large doesn't consume dairy. You will need to avoid milk, butter, cheeses and dairy products like cream.  If you do consume these, you will observe symptoms of lactose-intolerance – like rashes and diarrhea.

If lactose avoidance is not possible, then there are means to get the required nutrients through a parallel diet. Enzyme lactase supplementation is an option open to you, and this is available in medical stores too. You need to consult with your physician before you begin any medication.

In certain cases, the lactose intolerance is secondary – it is less extreme. In such cases, it is actually possible to train the intestine to accept and process lactose effectively. This training process is simply the ingestion of a small amount of dairy product every day. If the intolerance kicks in, stop immediately. However, if the dose is so small that your body breaks it down successfully, increase the quantity of lactose the next time. Continue over a period of weeks to get results. Be patient, and most importantly, consult with a doctor.
