Flax seed oil health benefits Consuming flax seed oil daily is certainly good for the body. Flax seed is extremely rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, which seem to help the body greatly by preventing a variety of heart conditions, as well as providing several other benefits. Flax seed oil is also known as linseed oil, and is available quite easily, including in the form of capsules.
One tablespoon a day or the equivalent amount of capsules should be enough to provide you with the health benefits.
However, it is probably better to consume flax seed itself, as this is still more beneficial to the body. Flax seed is an excellent source of dietary fiber, which prevents constipation. Flax seed oil not only loses this benefit, it also does not contain the lignans that flax seed has, which are thought to prevent cancer. You should buy whole flax seed, and you can then grind it just before use, adding it to a variety of foods, such as breakfast cereal, salads, juices, and cakes. However, both flax seed and flax seed oil tend to turn rancid rather quickly, in which case they may be carcinogenic. You should therefore not buy too much, and store it carefully. If you suspect that the flax seed or the oil has gotten spoilt, it is best to throw it away.
