It’s not the split ends that you need to take care of but the dry and brittle hair that’s actually causing the problem. Split ends are an indication that the ends of your hair have been exhausted of the protective cuticles and therefore need good moisturizing and nourishing. The only thing you can do to split ends is snip them off and then make sure they don’t recur.
Factors that strip your hair of moisture are: dry weather, overuse of chemical-based hair products, equipments like rollers or hair dryers, perming, washing hair too frequently that too with hot water, brushing or backcombing your hair too much, especially when hair is wet and with poor quality combs or brushes. If you avoid all of the above, your hair will not only be naturally shiny but also free of split ends. Covering your hair when you step out to save it from heat and pollution, along with consuming a balanced diet with lots of water would also help a lot.
It’s actually not too difficult to bring the moisture back in to your hair. You can take these curative steps to say goodbye to split ends. The hot towel treatment is something that’s recommended as the first remedy. First warm coconut, olive or mustard oil and massage your hair for about 15 minutes. Then soak a towel in hot water, squeeze it, wrap around your head and let it stay for 7 minutes before washing your hair off. Massaging improves blood circulation. The oil glands at the roots will produce more sebum due to improved blood circulation which is essential for healthy hair. Wrapping the hot towel makes sure the oil penetrates right up to the roots. You will see the results if you follow this regime twice a week. Papaya pack is also a good remedy to restore lost hair moisture. Make a pulp of half a ripe, skinned and deseeded papaya with half cup of yogurt added to it. Apply it generously to your scalp, hair strands and ends. Wash it thoroughly with warm water after letting it stay for 30 minutes. You can also make your hair stronger by providing it with proteins. Avocado is good for that purpose. After washing your hair, apply a pulp made of one ripe, peeled avocado mixed with a teaspoon of wheat-germ oil and jojoba oil each. Cover your scalp with a shower cap, let the mix stand for 15-30 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

Split ends natural remedies Split ends are basically the result of damage to the hair. Harsh chemicals in your shampoos and other hair products, too much exposure to water or to wind and dust, or even extreme heat or cold can damage your hair and make it start to split. Once hair has split, it cannot be repaired, and the only thing to do is trim the split ends and then take better care of your hair to make sure that it does not split again.
The first thing you should do therefore is go for a hair cut. Your hairdresser will know how much of your hair to cut, so this is one situation in which you should leave it up to him or her. After this, be extra careful about how you treat your hair — cover your hair when you go out, particularly if it is likely to be exposed to strong winds and pollution. Avoid using gels and other products to set your hair, as these often damage the hair. Limit your use of the hair dryer, and do not go for any treatments to straighten or perm your hair. Start using a milder shampoo, and use a conditioner as well, but make sure that it too is gentle and suits your hair. Do not comb your hair when it is wet.
