Itchy scalp
(18 Mar 2008)

While there are a number of hair and head conditions that will serve more to affect the aesthetic appeal of an individual, suffering from a condition such as an itchy scalp will affect the individual significantly more than just on the aesthetics side of his quality of life. An itchy scalp can make a person feel very uncomfortable throughout the day and can also lead to a significant amount of social embarrassment. Scalp issues are not uncommon amongst people all over the world and walking into any chemist or even general store on any part of the globe is likely to see you confronted by a host of different brands and products promising to take better care of your scalp and hair.

Because the hair is considered to be one of the most defining aesthetic embellishments of an individual, there are a number of products that have been created in order to better the quality and texture of your hair. However, what most manufacturing conglomerates leave out is the fact that in order to have a healthy head of hair, you also need to have a healthy scalp. Suffering from an itchy scalp could possibly be an indication of a number of medical problems that are developing within the body. For instance, conditions such as dermatitis are known to cause the scalp to be significantly itchy. The only way to treat the condition and simultaneously take care of the itchy scalp would be to get rid of the root cause in the first place – the dermatitis.

More commonly known as dandruff, suborrheic dermatitis is probably one of the most common causes of itchy scalp. The condition can be caused by a host of different factors such as stress, anxiety, hereditary as well as changing chemical and hormonal levels within the body. The problem of dandruff will manifest itself by the prominence of flaking skin and patchy hair loss. Another one of the more common causes of an itchy scalp is contract dermatitis. This condition can be caused by the skin reacting to some kind of substance that has been placed directly on it. Because of the fact that a lot of our hair care products today include a high amount of chemicals means that there is always the chance that our skin is adversely reacting to the chemical composition of these substances. In this event, it is almost imperative that you identify the causing factor or hair product and stop using it. An itchy scalp should never be taken lightly as the more severe cases of the condition can see the itching being so intense, that an affected person will usually scratch the area till the skin becomes raw and may even start to bleed. Head lice are another very common cause and have more to do with the general hygiene of an individual. More common in children, it almost necessary to use a nit comb in order to get the lice as well as the un-hatched eggs out of the hair and thereby stop the cycle of the eggs maturing into adults.

Because of the fact that the condition is a very common one, there are a number of itchy scalp home remedies that can be found through a variety of sources such as the internet. These natural cures for itchy scalp could be used without the worry of any side effects as they are natural and have no harmful chemicals present in them. One may even consult a dermatologist when using an effective shampoo for dry, itchy scalp. There are also a number of different manufactured hair care products that will also vow to help deal with the condition such as the variety of rather effective shampoos for dry and itchy scalps.

Itchy scalp alternative cures

Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the human body. If your condition has lasted for a year, we hope you have already made a visit to your general practitioner. If not, please do so. Dry, itchy lips are an open invitation to infection. Here are some pointers to keep in mind till you get to the doc's door.

The important thing that you control right now, that can greatly benefit your lips is the amount of times you lick your lips. Do you lick them very often? Do you never lick them because of your condition? Both extremes are not recommended. So please ensure that you lick your lips every once in a while — but definitely not TOO often.

If you have been using any lip products, we recommend you try switching. Lots of skin treatments are achieved simply by changing the type of cream/ointment/balm that is being used. Look out for products that contain lanolin. This ingredient is present in a lot of skin care products and is known to cause increased sensitivity in some cases.

Your condition could be diet related too. Vitamin B2 is one such vitamin, that when ingested in deficient amounts, gives rise to dry, scaly lips. Consult with your physician and try out a daily dosage of vitamin B2 for about 30 to 40 days and see if you benefit from this treatment.
