Mouth canker sores home cures A canker sore is basically a ulcer or open sore inside the mouth. It is often the result of a bite or other injury which breaks the mucus membrane that lines the mouth. This is probably the most common cause of oral ulcers, but they are also sometimes caused by stress, illness, allergies, fluctuations in hormones, and deficiencies of certain minerals and vitamins, and a variety of medical conditions and infections.
While there are some home remedies for oral ulcers, they do not always work, and over the counter medicines and medical prescriptions do not do much better either. To some extent, you just have to wait for the ulcer to run its course and heal on its own. Meanwhile however, you can use some common home products to ease the pain and even prevent the infection from getting worse. You can rinse your mouth with a solution that contains either hydrogen peroxide or alum. They might sting a little, but they will help disinfect the sore. You can also apply a little baking soda or aloe on the ulcer a few times a day to soothe it. Meanwhile, you can take a small amount of vitamin C supplements, but avoid citrus fruits, as well as coffee, smoking, and alcohol.
