Dark circles home remedies Under eye dark circles are generally a sign of exhaustion and inadequate sleep. However it can also be genetic or sometimes due to retention of fluids which causes puffiness and the consequent shadows make the under eyes seem darker. To avoid getting dark circles avoid reading in bed late at night, especially while lying down, and get 6 to 8 hours of sleep a day.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle, i.e. a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, avoid smoking and drinking and exercise or practice pranayama daily. You should also practice some basic eye exercises to keep them strong and to give them some rest while you are working during the day, or even at the end of a long day.
A very popular home remedy for dark circles is placing cotton pads, soaked in cucumber juice or rose water over the eyes for 15 minutes. This has a cooling effect and soothes the eye, reducing the effect of fatigue on the eyes. You could also place cucumber slices directly on your eyes, or even slices of potato which is a natural bleaching agent. Applying a paste of fenugreek powder and milk on the dark circles and leaving it overnight helps to lighten the circles considerably. You could also apply a mixture of almond oil and lemon juice before sleeping and wash it off the next morning. A massage with almond oil rejuvenates the skin around the eyes and prevents dark circles.
