Home remedies for gas bloating 

When we eat gas producing foods, or when we swallow too much air gas gets trapped in the intestinal tract causing a shooting pain in that area. This is not harmful per se, but it can be very painful and chronic gas sufferers may have trouble sleeping and digesting their food. Gas also causes incomplete elimination of faecal matter.


There are certain simple precautions to take which will fix the problem.

When you start to feel a little bloated, the first thing to do is to get some physical activity. Lying down on your back or reclining in a sofa will only make you feel worse.


Get into something loose and comfortable to take pressure of your stomach and try and walk around for a bit. Alternatively, lie flat on your back and make cycling movements in the air. If the pain is acute, wrap a wet towel around your stomach and lie to one side. Try and find the aching area by pressing around your abdomen with your fingers and massage the exact point with your fingers to help release the trapped gas.

Here are some simple precautions to take to prevent bloating in the first place

  1. Avoid carbonated drinks
  2. Maintain a food diary for at least a month and try and take note of what foods cause gas in your case. Eliminate such foods from your diet.
  3. Don't eat vegetables of the cabbage family
  4. Don't eat heavy meals in the night and don't lie down for at least two hours after food.
  5. In the nights try and eat lean meats and rice rather than anything starchy. Starchy foods cause gas.

Ginger, asafoetida and prunes have anti-flatulent properties, so you can try either of these and see if they give you relief. Taking some activated charcoal is one of the most effective remedies for abdominal and rectal gas. Finally you will need to make exercise and dietary changes to help suppress the problem for life
