Alternative remedies for treating vaginal disorders Vaginal odor may be a normal thing associated with the regular menstrual cycle. But if the smell is excessively unpleasant or if the vaginal discharge is thick and white, then a problem may be suspected.
Bacterial Vaginosis causes an offensive fishy odour.
This is easily treated by a course of antibiotics that a doctor can recommend. It is also possible that there is an imbalance in the vaginal bacteria thanks to a previous course of antibiotics. Try taking probiotic supplements or lots of yogurt and see if that fixes the problem.
Also drink unsweetened cranberry juice as this will clean up the urinary tract area and therefore sanitize the general vaginal area. Yeast infection typically does not cause an odor, but it does cause a creamy white discharge that can be offensive.
Precautions to prevent BV include:
- Not using harsh and scented products in the vaginal region
- Avoiding public toilets and baths
- Wipe from front to back after using the toilet
- Wear cotton underwear
- Never use a douche
To immediately get rid of the odour, you can try applying unsweetened yogurt inside the smelly area. If you talk to your gynaecologist she may be able to prescribe topical creams or gels that will solve the problem immediately. In a pinch you can try dabbing some perfume 2-3 cms away from the area. Any closer and you risk irritating the vaginal tissue.
