Health advice for treating ulcers

How can I treat my ulcer? Currently taking Nexium and an occasionally Prevacid. I have stopped drinking coffee since 2 days ago. I have lots of burning and nausea. General malaise (feeling of discomfort).

Health advice for treating ulcers

Ulcers occur when the cells lining the stomach internally lose their protective effect and the acid produced by the stomach begins to eat into the stomach itself. Ulcers form little craters in the stomach lining which get irritated and inflamed from several causes. Listed below are some natural remedies and lifestyle changes to deal with the problem.

Try maintaining a food diary for about a month to see what kind of food cause you to feel uncomfortable. Foods act differently on different people. The list of foods that irritate you will be uniquely your own.

Once you have figured out what foods these are, eliminate them from your diet for good.

Eat 3-4 small meals a day with 2 snack times. Do not overeat at any meal. Keep the intake at every meal to about 300-400 calories. Staying hungry can cause your ulcer pain to act up.

OTC antacids are useful in healing an ulcer temporarily, so keep a roll of tablets handy.
Chew some an hour after food, before bed time and anytime you feel pain.

Stress is directly correlated to ulcer pain, so try and do some de-stressing early in the mornings and just before you got to bed. Meditation in the mornings and a nice long soak in a hot tub at nights can soothe and relax you.

Spend some time every day relaxing and trying to visualize greater warmth in your stomach region and less acid secretion. Positive visualization can actually help reduce ulcer pain.

Quit smoking. There is evidence to show that smoking makes ulcers worse
Do not take a class of drugs known as NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammtory Drugs)
as they are known to aggravate ulcers. If you must take them, take them with food or try natural substitutes like curcumin and Boswellia.

The important thing is to maintain a positive outlook and to eat correctly and on time.
