Natural cure for sinus treatment If you have a constant runny nose, head and nasal congestion, headaches and bad breath you probably have sinusitis. An acute attack of sinusitis may be caused by a bacterial infection, but more often the cause is viral or fungal, so antibiotics may not help.
Here are some natural remedies that may help with the problem:
- Allergies are one of the major causes of sinusitis.
One simple way to deal with them is to install a comination air/HEPA filter. This will keep out dust mites, dirt, pollen, animal waste and pollutants. Also try using anti allergic pillow covers and mattresses.
- Use a nasal wash. Simple saline will do. Nasal washes containing colloidal silver or Echinacea Purpurea are also quite effective. Use a nasal wash 3-4 times a day.
- Eat apples and red onions. Both are rich in a bioflavonoid called Quercetin which helps decrease mucus production and boost the immune response.
- Boost your immunity by taking supplements rich in antioxidants such as Vitamin E, Vitamin C, selenium, zinc and carotenoids. Garlic and Olive Leaf extract also help.
- Hot compresses applied to the bridge of the nose, eyes and cheeks will reduce swelling and help open up the nose.
- Eat dairy products in moderation and avoid fried, sweet and refined foods. All of these compromise the body's immune response.
- An enzyme called bromelaine also shows promise in sinusitis by reducing inflammation in sinuses.
In addition to all of these keep away from stressful situations and try and do half an hour of meditation every morning. Stress compromises the immune system, so give yourself a break.
