Alternative treatment for avoiding fleas I am not able to find any information on the remedy suggested by your friend, but there are several other very effective remedies that you can try, all made from things readily available in the house.
- Make your own flea collar by adding a few drops of Citronella Oil, Teatree oil or eucalyptus oil to a doggy bandana and tying it loosely around your dog's neck.
- Cut a couple of lemons into quarters and steep them in boiling water.
Leave this over night and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray your dog all over with this home made flea repellent - Clean out your furnishings because this is where fleas are usually to be found. They hop on to your dog the first chance they get.
Vacuum everything thoroughly once. - Wash your dog's bedding in the hot water cycle. This should kill all fleas.
- Linalool and D-Limolene are most likely the only available insecticides that kill adult fleas, larvae, and also their eggs. Both products are available together in a spray form called Fleastop.
- Try and do all these things together, so your dog and home are free of fleas once and for all. Otherwise every time you clean your dog, he will simply get re-infected.
- Try feeding your dog food that contains garlic. The smell is not attractive to fleas and may keep them away.
All of these are safe and non toxic solutions that work and you have a happy flea-free dog.
