Gingivitis natural treatment

Gingivitis or bleeding of the gums is the first step towards periodontal disease, leading to the deterioration of the jawbone by way of it shrinking and becoming brittle. The first step to preventing gingivitis is strengthening your bones with a calcium-rich diet and quit smoking and drinking since it can drain your body of essential minerals required to keep your gums healthy. Eating a raw fruit or vegetable daily also helps to build your body's resistance and helps to cut down the plaque building on your teeth.

Vitamin C deficiency is one of the primary reasons for gum decay, so increase consumption of fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C. Foods rich in folic acid prevent inflammation and bleeding of gums.

Apart from this, it is crucial to also maintain a good dental hygiene routine by brushing (especially with a toothpaste containing sage oil or peppermint) and flossing regularly, scraping your tongue to eliminate bacteria and massage gums to increase blood circulation to your gums.

An excellent way to clean your teeth and get rid of the bacteria residing in your gums is by applying a small amount of baking soda on the gum line before brushing your teeth. Application of a mixture of 500 g guava peel, 10 g alum, 10 g black pepper and 10 g black salt on your teeth twice a day for a week to prevent tooth decay. Application of tea-tree oil also helps soothe inflamed gums and prevent further tooth decay. A home-made mouth wash of 1 drop each of geranium, lemon and tea-tree oil in half glass water is very beneficial, but don't swallow the mixture because certain essential oils can be fatal.
