Cramps natural cures

The exact reason for cramps is difficult to pinpoint since it be caused due to a number of reasons ranging from muscle fatigue due to overexertion or rigorous exercises, dehydration, electrolyte or hormonal imbalances to nerve abnormalities or muscles diseases. It could also be due to reduced blood supply to the legs, or even deficiency of Calcium or Vitamin E. To avoid getting cramps, stay well hydrated through out the day, especially during exercises and follow a diet rich in potassium and calcium.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and green leafy vegetables to improve blood circulation and maintain the mineral balance. Caffeine and nicotine adversely affect blood circulation, so cut down on coffee, tea and cigarettes.

For immediate relief during a muscles cramp, massage in the natural direction of the muscle to ease the tension and relax the muscles.

A hot shower or warm bath also helps to soothe the tensed muscles, as does a heating pad. If you are prone to muscles cramps, massage your limbs regularly with olive or flaxseed oil and soak you feet in a tub of warm water twice a day, gently massaging your feet afterwards. If the cramps are being caused by varicose veins or pregnancy, keep your legs elevated as far as possible to improve blood circulation and prevent cramps. Some basic stretching exercises, walking and swimming also help to reduce the frequency of cramps. If your profession involves sitting or standing in one position for long periods of time, move around every hour and if possible remove your shoes, wriggle your toes and give your feet a gentle massage. Also exercise your neck, wrists and fingers by slowly rotating them and folding and unfolding your fingers to ease the tension and boost blood circulation.
