A sore throat is caused due to an infection of the pharynx. It may either be due a viral infection or a bacterial one. Sore throat symptoms from a viral infection normally occurs when an individual has either a cold or an attack of influenza and may be accompanied with a runny nose, muscle aches and fever.
A bacterial infection on the other hand particularly from the streptococcal bacteria, has the same symptoms as the viral one, but they tend to be long lasting and generally more severe. In general the symptoms of a sore throat are as follows; lymph glands that are situated along the side of one’s neck may swell up and become tender. In addition the area behind the throat may turn very red due to inflammation and may also get covered by whitish- gray membrane.
There may be a difficulty in swallowing, particularly in the acute stage. At times this could also be accompanied by postnatal discharge especially if the inflammation or infection has spread to the nasal passage. A sore throat however can be treated very effectively with the help of simple and easy to implement home remedies. Cinnamon is considered to be highly useful when it comes to treating sore throats. Add a teaspoon of very coarsely ground cinnamon powder to a glass of water and boil the two for a few minutes. Once the solution cools add a dash of salt and 2 teaspoons of honey, stir and then drink. This should be had twice a day to gain relief. An alternative to this would be to add 2-3 drops of cinnamon oil to 1 teaspoon of honey and then drink the mixture. This will work equally well.
A gargle that is prepared out of fenugreek seeds is also known to be very effective. All you need to do is add 2 tablespoons of the seeds to 1 liter of water. Let the water simmer on a low flame for 30 minutes. Once the water has cooled, strain it into a glass and use the decoction to gargle your throat. Add a teaspoon each of lemon juice and honey to a glass of lukewarm water. Drinking this mixture 2-3 times a day will help soothe the throat and will alleviate pain. Chewing on a garlic pod is also known to work well on a sore throat. Tea prepared from marshmallow root or honeysuckle is also very good for a sore throat.

Sore throat, also called tonsillitis, is a condition when there is an inflammation in the back portion of the throat causing irritation and even pain to the sufferer. This ailment is usually caused by viral infections such as cold and flu or when tonsils swell up. However, it can also be due to sinusitis and contagious diseases like measles. Sore throat is sometimes accompanied by high fever, body pain and sometimes ear ache. Other than cold, fever and throat pain, other symptoms of sore throat are enlarged and tender lymph glands and difficulty in swallowing. First ensure that the problem doesn’t aggravate further by taking a balanced diet containing plenty of fruits, leafy vegetables, whole grain wheat. Avoid consuming fried, refrigerated and cold foods like watermelons, grapes, bananas, yogurt and other sour food. Avoid head bath and don’t expose yourself to cold water or weather for a few days.
While doing all of the above, you can follow these simple tips. Citrus fruits are quite beneficial to cure cold since they have Vitamin C. Actually consuming Vitamin C tablet everyday improves your immunity to colds. And when you do have sore throat, drink ample of freshly made lemon and orange juices. You can also drink a decoction of lemon juice and honey added to a glass of hot water. This will not only reduce the throat pain but also heal the infection. Yet another treatment is putting salt and black pepper on half a lemon, heating it to make it warm and sucking on it till the juice is drained out. Repeating this thrice a day will give you excellent results. When you do this, make sure you stick a knife into the cut lemon to make sure that salt and pepper have penetrated inside. One of the easiest and best remedies for sore throat is gargling. Add four teaspoons of salt to one liter of water and warm it. Gargle with this water several times a day, 15 minutes each time. You can make several other decoctions that will get rid of sore throat. Add a teaspoon of cumin seeds and a few pieces of garlic to boiling water. After it has simmered well, let it cool and drink the decoction in small sips. Basil leaves are also very effective in curing sore throat. Boil 10-15 leaves in a glass of water, strain the decoction and drink in small sips thrice a day.

Sore throat natural remedies There are countless home remedies to take care of a sore throat that can be followed quite easily and effortlessly at home. To begin with, you must gargle with hot salted water to which a pinch of turmeric has been added about thrice a day. This will provide relief in swallowing. Mix equal quantities of ginger juice and honey and take this mix thrice a day.
Alternatively, you can also mix a teaspoon each of cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, ginger and powder this with a couple of teaspoons of sugar. Have a little of this mix with honey all throughout the day to ease soreness. Have a glass of hot milk with a pinch each of turmeric and pepper powder every night before bedtime. This will help heal your throat.
Among the foods you should eat for this particular ailment are warm soft foods. A mix of carrot, cucumber and beetroot juice will help tremendously. Warm diluted orange juice is also soothing. You can also suck a piece of dried ginger all day for relief, or have ginger candy. Make a mix of equal parts of honey and ginger juice and have this. All of these remedies will help to ease the soreness.
