Weight gain or weight loss is a requirement measured on the basis of a Body Mass Index or BMI. The Body Mass Index indicates the healthy range by measuring your weight in comparison to your height. This parameter also tells you whether you are overweight or underweight.

Check your Body Mass Index to get a better idea of your weight. If the Body Mass index indicates a range below 18. 5 you are underweight and need to pile on the pounds. Weight losers always outnumber people who want to gain weight and therefore you will be the odd one out who will be looking for weight gaining foods in a world choosing low calorie foods.

Being underweight is rarely a medical condition unless it is caused due to any other disorders or age. Heredity, high metabolism or genetic factors usually translate to being underweight. Being too thin can also lead to increasing you chances of contracting diseases such as cancer or heart failure. Dietary intake and weight training is the answer to resolve weight gain issues.

Eating high calorie foods is surely your answer to gain with the “how to” eat syndrome. Break your meal time to five large portion meals rather than three basic meals. Give preference to high protein and starchy foods to build muscle mass such as eggs, beans, pulses, potatoes and rice. Eating rice instead of breads and cereals alone can push the calorie intake higher. Dried fruits are another high calorie snacking item which you can gorge on in between meal times. Include milk shakes, juices and fluids instead of water, tea and coffee. Try the protein shakes and breakfast bars loaded with proteins and nutrients to help you gain weight. Spruce up plain foods with mayonnaise, peanut butter, olive oils or nuts and seeds. Load muffins, bagels and breads with honey, jams, dried fruits and other high calorie “extras” that will help the foods taste better and help you gain better.

Workouts at the gym must be more focused on weight training to build muscle mass. Weight training includes squats, bench presses, free weights or dumbbells, bar dips and pull ups that help in weight gain. Control your calorie spend by limiting your workouts but maintaining adequate exercise on a regular basis. Weight gain is a gradual exercise; give this attempt the required time and effort to achieve desired results. Avoid falling prey to powders, tonics and other one week remedies that will only leave you a few dollars less in your account.
