Home remedies for infant cold and cough: My infant (6mon) and toddler (2yrs) both have colds and coughs. What can I do? The doctor says there is really nothing and to just wait it out. They don't sleep or eat. I am worried.

Treatment for Cold and Cough in Infant and Toddler
The two children are of different ages and this would require you to follow the same treatment but in different ways for both of them. They will start eating and sleeping once their health improves, so you must not worry excessively about that. To treat both the children together, you can run a hot steamy bath and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil and some dried lavender in the water. Sit in this bath with both the children naked and let them inhale the vapors. It is all right if your toddler touches the water once it cools down a little, but you must keep the infant away from direct contact with the hot water. This method will open up the children's sinuses, allowing their congestion to loosen and enabling them to breathe better.
A paste of honey, fresh ginger juice and holy basil juice is a highly effective remedy for colds. For the infant, add a drop of this paste to a tablespoon of warm water and administer. For the toddler, mix a quarter teaspoon in milk and make him drink it. This will help loosen phlegm and heal the cough from within. Prepare vegetable or chicken broth for the children and give it to them while it is still warm. Throw a few cloves on a skillet and allow them to burn till they are white in color. Let the children inhale the fumes. This is the best remedy to get rid of excess mucus.
