(29 Mar 2008)

Acne is believed to result from a combination of various factors. The most important triggering factor is an increase in hormonal levels in the body. The hormones in question are known as androgens, also known as male hormones.

They begin to rise in content in males and females at the time of puberty. These hormones cause an enlargement of the sebaceous or oil glands of the body, resulting in an increased production of sebum or oil. Hereditary is also believed to play a role in the development of acne, since it has been studied that there is a tendency for acne to be passed on from the parents to the child.  Acne becomes aggravated due to certain conditions. A few days before the menstrual period in females, the hormonal levels begin to rise. This can cause an outbreak of acne during this time. Pregnancy or the discontinuation of birth control pills are also characterized by rising hormone content in the body, and as such are triggers for acne. Stress, anxiety or emotional distress is also known to cause acne flare-ups. Other factors include intake of certain medications, use of harsh or oily cosmetics, friction caused by constantly rubbing the skin and environmental factors such as smoke, pollution and humidity are also known to cause acne.

It is important not to pick or squeeze at pimples as this will cause them to become infected and also to spread to other areas of the skin. Drinking lots of water is essential to flush out harmful substances from the body. It also helps to keep the skin hydrated and healthy. A home remedy that is believed to be effective in treating acne is to rub a fresh garlic clove on the pimples. Another easy home remedy is to apply a bit of toothpaste to the acne. This will restrict infection and growth of the pimples. Applying mint juice to the acne will help to curb inflammation and is known to be a good remedy for acne.

Our dietary habits reflect on the health of our skin. As such, eating fresh vegetables and fruits will improve the condition of the skin. A paste of grated cucumber may also be dabbed on to the pimples. This will decrease infection and also nourish the skin. Honey is an excellent remedy for most skin problems, and can also be applied to acne. A paste of fenugreek leaves may also be applied to the affected areas and left on for fifteen minutes, before rinsing it off.

Acne is one of the most common skin ailments; however there are several ways to treat it. To start with, you could take two cumbers and saturate their juice. Apply the juice in an even manner all over your face and wait for about 20 minutes or so. Once the juice has soaked in completely, wash it off with lukewarm water. Adding honey to a glass of hot buttermilk and applying it for 15 minutes would also help in removing acne. Another effective remedy would be mixing two garlic pods with equal amounts of vinegar and dabbing the same on the acne every evening. Strawberries distilled in white vinegar act like an astringent as well as a cleanser for such skins. You should apply this pulp on your face and wash it the next day for great results. Mixing lemon juice and rose water and applying it on your face gives a cooling effect and helps fight the acne faster. Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with an equal amount of any carrier oil. Applying this oil on the affected area acts like a natural antibiotic and reduces itchiness, stinging and redness. Applying egg whites on your acne and washing it with cold water would also be effective. Orange peel is also very helpful in the cure of acne.

Cook 2-3 tea bags and mix them with dried basil for a while after it is mixed apply it with a cotton ball. A paste of honey and cinnamon powder or of ripe tomatoes or fresh milk with gram flour is also said to work wonders. Blending 1-teaspoon of ground nutmeg with 1-teaspoon honey and applying it to the acne areas would reduce the scars. This mixture should be kept on for 20 minutes, wash the mixture off with cool water for effective results. You can follow this twice a week on a regular basis for improvement. You can use a mixture of grape and pineapple juice to exfoliate your skin, thereby unclogging the sebaceous glands. An application made of one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with a few tablespoons of mineral water helps in balancing the skins natural PH.

In addition to these measures, eating foods that are high in fiber will keep your colon clean. Drinking lots of water will also help clean out the toxins from your body. Eating four apples a day for five days consecutively would also help curing acne as apples absorb toxins from the body. You should also change your pillowcase as often as possible, as the constant rubbing of expelled skin and oil while sleeping will contribute to spreading of acne. Remember that severe acne should be treated properly by a doctor or it could result in permanent scaring.

Natural Treatment for Acne on Face

You can develop unsightly acne due to a couple of reasons. One is of course adolescence and the accompaniment of hormonal changes that comes with it. The second reason is dead skin cells that don't automatically shed and clog your pores, thereby restricting your skin from breathing freely. The best way to deal with acne is exfoliation. You can use a scrub made of walnuts and yogurt, which is extremely workable for oily skin and use this. Grind walnuts to a sandy coarseness and mix yogurt till you get a grainy paste. Scrub this all over your face to exfoliate dead skin. This will also open your pores and allow your skin to flush out toxins more easily.

Better circulation also helps to reduce oiliness, a major cause of acne. Make a pack of dried and ground orange peels and yogurt and leave it on for about 30 minutes, or till it dries, and wash with water. If you add a few drops of lime juice to this mix, it will disinfect your skin as well. You can also make a thick paste of sandalwood powder and rose water and apply this to your outbreaks. Leave it on till it dries, and repeat the process at least thrice a day. This will absorb excess heat from the body and heal the acne faster.
