Water retention home cures Water retention is a common problem with people who normally eat food that is high in salt and sugar. Typically known as edema, it generally affects the feet and legs, but it may also spread to other parts of the body. It can occur due to pregnancy, standing for too long, or sitting with feet dangling off the ground. The best remedy to beat water retention is to drink more water. This is the most effective way to flush out excessive water and salt from your body and bring down the swelling. You must drink a minimum of 10 litres of water every day. Try to cut out salt from your diet for a couple of days and see how much of a difference it makes. If it brings down the swelling noticeably, the indication is that you are consuming too much salt in your diet.
You must cut out processed and ready to eat foods, which are very high in salt content. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise, at least four times a week. This will help boost circulation and improve your general health, as well as bring your blood sugar and salt levels under control. For painful swelling, you can use ice packs to momentarily bring it down and numb the pain.
