Natural remedies for swollen gums
Swelling around a bad tooth is caused when the gum around it gets inflamed due to the bacterial infection. As a result it can be quite painful and inconvenient to treat. There are several ways in which you can reduce the swelling.
The first method would require you to apply a hot compress to the affected tooth by placing it on the outside of the mouth and hold the compress down for about 15- 20 minutes. The heat encourages the blood circulation around the affected area and thus reduces the swelling. The compress can be bought at any pharmacy. Another method is to apply a wet tea bag on the gum for about thirty minutes; this helps ease the soreness and the swelling to some extent. Clove oil has also been known to help fight tooth infection and is a widely used tooth remedy.
To prevent further swelling and infection you need to brush your teeth regularly, preferably after every meal, and also floss at least once a day. Avoid smoking as it inhibits the body's ability to fight off the infection and will affect the effectiveness of the treatment. Finally if your condition becomes worse it is advisable to consult your dentist for further treatment.
