Home remedies for cough

Dry, persistent cough can result from various causes. In order to soothe the itchiness that leads to persistent cough first try a salt-water gargle. Heat 4 cups of water in a pan and bring it to boil.

Add 2 teaspoons of salt to this and allow the solution to cool till it is possible for you to sip it without burning your mouth. Take small sips and gargle it by holding the water as far back in your throat as is possible.  Do not swallow the water.

Instead after gargling with it spit it out in the sink.

Juniper oil is an essential oil that works well in tackling a throat infection. Try steam inhalation using this oil. Mix ten to fifteen drops of juniper oil in steaming water and inhale the released vapors. Mixing a drop of it in a glass of warm water and gargling with it can have an antiseptic effect. Peppermint oil is also known for its anti-inflammatory abilities. You could try using a few drops of this in steaming water to try another variation on the steam inhalation. Peppermint tea is also an excellent home remedy to soothe an irritated throat. Blend one to two teaspoons of peppermint leaves in boiling water. Allow it to steep for 3 minutes. Add a teaspoonful of dark honey and sip on it through the day.
