One factor that can predispose you to snoring is being overweight. You need not be obese in order to be prone to snoring. Even being ten to twenty pounds over your normal weight can sometimes set it off.


So if this applies then losing a few of the extra pounds can help. Try doing exercises you enjoy and that make you sweat. These may include a session of kickboxing, a hike in the woods, a jog on the beach, a belly-dancing lesson or just shooting hoops with a friend.


Make sure you do not exercise just before bedtime though, as this can lead to feelings of sleeplessness and consequent feeling of being poorly rested. Also avoid consumption of alcohol or smoking before bedtime because this can exacerbate the condition.

Avoid plumping up your bed with pillows that elevate the level of your head too much. The higher your head the more constricted your breathing so make sure you do not have your head bent at too much of an angle. Make sure you sleep on your side, as this seems to ease the snoring sometimes. Sometimes snoring can result from chest congestion due to allergies or a cold. A vapor treatment can clear up the nasal passages and eliminate snoring due to this reason. Try a blend of steaming water with some menthol oil or eucalyptus oil in it.
