Any home remedy to ease pain of Fibromyalgia?
(22 Oct 2007)

Fibromyalgia is a medical term which refers to the debilitating chronic muscle and ligament pain experienced by a large number of people. Whilst it is commonly noticed in both, men and women, recent research has shown that women tend to be affected by this condition more frequently than men. Generally, fibromyalgia affects women in the age group ranging from mid 30s to mid-50s.

Medical science is yet to determine the exact factors responsible for fibromyalgia. This condition usually manifests itself in symptoms which affect the muscles and the ligaments. The ailment primarily affects the shoulders, the neck, the back and the hips. The pain associated with this condition is considered to be intense in the morning, just after waking up from sleep. In the morning, the pain and the stiffness is also accompanied by excessive tenderness, burning and flu-like symptoms. Patients affected by fibromyalgia are also known to experience extreme fatigue, insomnia as well as dizziness. There are many cases, where the affected individual may also experience gastrointestinal problems. In situations where the condition has worsened, the affected patients have been known to experience memory loss, difficulty in concentration and depression.

It is always advisable to seek expert medical attention if you suspect you are suffering from fibromyalgia. Your doctor will be able to diagnose your exact condition and recommend the appropriate course of treatment. There are several natural alternatives that can be considered in alleviating the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Two teaspoons of fresh ginger juice extract when consumed twice daily is believed to be beneficial in treating fibromyalgia. Ginger, if consumed raw, is far more beneficial, if you can tolerate its taste. Turmeric is another useful option against fibromyalgia. Turmeric has powerful antiseptic and other medicinal properties. Consuming turmeric powder mixed with some water or milk is very useful in soothing the muscles and is an effective remedy to treat Fibromyalgia.

Follow a routine which includes low impact exercises like walking, biking and swimming to reduce the frequency of pain. It is better to avoid vigorous exercises as well as weight training, as this could aggravate the muscle pain. You can also gently massage the affected area with warm mustard oil to alleviate the symptoms of pain. Applying hot compresses to the affected area of the skin may also help in relieving the pain. It is advisable to follow a well-balanced healthy diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables such as carrots, zucchini, beetroot, coconut and lime which are considered to be beneficial for individuals affected by fibromyalgia. Do ensure that you avoid foods like spinach, broccoli, potato, okra and cauliflower as well as sugar, tea, coffee and alcohol.
