Septicemia

by Kevin Pederson

Septicemia can be defined as an inflammatory response to infections in the body. Also referred to as blood poisoning, septicemia is characterized by the presence of infection causing bacteria in the bloodstream, which triggers an immune system response causing inflammation.

Some of the major causes of septicemia are as follows:

  • Septicemia may be caused as a result of a feeble or vulnerable physical state like increasing age, when it is feasible for the bacteria to attack and enter the bloodstream of the patient.

  • Septicemia may also be caused by bacterial infection of lungs, abdomen, or urinary tract.
  • Other causes of septicemia include surgery, wounds, and burns.

The symptoms of septicemia include chills, fever, fatigue, and elevated heart rate.

Gradually, the symptoms get altered to low body temperature or hyperthermia, low blood pressure, and confused state of mind.

A few home remedies mentioned below could go a long way to relieve the symptoms of septicemia

  • One of the most effective home remedies to relieve septicemia is to consume foods which can enhance or boost your immune system. You must consume foods rich in Vitamin C, which includes citrus fruits like orange, grapefruit and lemon, guava, broccoli, papaya, mango, tomato, kiwi fruit, and pepper.
  • In order to increase the count of fresh red blood cells in the body, you must consume foods rich in Vitamin B-Complex, particularly Vitamin B12. This will reduce the intensity of infection of the blood stream, thereby relieving the symptoms of septicemia.
  • Herbal treatment is also effective in relieving septicemia. You can consume an infusion of nettle herb, birch leaves, and dandelions leaves boiled in water. The herbal infusion will help cleanse the bloodstream, thereby alleviating the symptoms of septicemia. You can also consume celery with the herbal infusion to remove even the last traces of toxins in the blood.
  • Another herbal infusion which is recommended to be consumed to cure septicemia is prepared using horse chestnut, hazelnut, and yellow melilot. This infusion also helps in purifying blood by removing toxins.
  • Foods rich in green pigment chlorophyll are also helpful in removing the toxins from blood and purifying it. Some of the green foods which you must consume to relieve septicemia are lettuce, spinach, barley grass, and wheatgrass.
  • While you are on antibiotic treatment, you must consume friendly bacteria like lactobacillus and acidophilus. You are advised to consume natural curd which is a good source of healthy bacteria for the body.

Do remember to consult a doctor before you starting the herbal treatment.
