Restoring Eye Brow Hair

by Kevin Pederson
Hair loss may sometimes also occur on the eyebrows due to injuries. Loss of hair on the eyebrows can be quite distressing as it is very noticeable. The hair on the eyebrows also grows much more slowly than the hair on the scalp.

As such re-growth of hair can take a very long time. Other causes of eyebrow hair loss include over plucking, chemotherapy, burns, illnesses, alopecia, hormonal abnormalities, infection, eczemas, psoriasis and chemotherapy. Whether scar tissue is able to support hair growth depends on the type of injury and how much time has passed since the injury.

You need to under a medical examination to determine the possibility of hair growth in the area.

For a permanent method, eyebrow hair restoration is available. This is a medical procedure in which a graft of skin with hair is obtained from the scalp and transplanted into the affected eyebrow. This procedure is not very invasive and usually does not result in any side effects besides minor swelling. Another method of hair restoration involves taking a strip of skin with hair from the ear area and placing it in the eyebrow through a pathway beneath the skin. The piece of skin supplies blood to the eyebrow area until it develops its own blood circulation. It takes some amount of time for the transplanted eyebrows to achieve the natural shape. In some cases, topical creams are prescribed by the doctor to promote hair growth in the eyebrow areas. Cosmetically filling in the eyebrow hair is also possible. You can do this using an eyebrow pencil to fill in the hair with short strokes to give it a more realistic appearance. The hair follicles require protein and vitamins such as vitamins A, C and E for healthy growth of hair. You can increase the intake of these nutrients to promote hair growth.

Once you determine if hair growth in the affected area is possible, you can use some home remedies to stimulate the growth. Application of castor oil daily is known to promote good growth of hair. Olive oil or coconut oil can also be applied to stimulate hair growth. Coconut milk is also believed to be effective in boosting hair growth. You may even prepare a paste of soaked fenugreek seeds, onion juice and aloe vera gel and apply to the eyebrow regularly. Application of aloe vera gel is also known to be effective in the stimulation of hair growth.
