Nasal Congestion Cure

by Shaun Damon
Nasal congestion is one the most uncomfortable conditions to be affected by. Formally this was believed to be caused by the concentration of mucous in the nasal passage when it was too thick. This would result in the clogging of the nasal passage.

However, recent studies and research show that the condition is actually the result of an inflammation in the membranes that line the nose. Nasal congestion is a very common occurrence and is caused by a number of factors. We are very frequently affected by the common cold – one condition that is more often than not accompanied by nasal congestion.

Allergies are another very common cause of nasal congestion and an unnatural reaction of the body to a substance that does not usually cause a reaction amongst most people. Conditions like a sinus infection and influenza are other common causes of the condition.  When the condition affects a child, it is important that the parents do not rule out the possibility that the condition could easily be caused by a foreign object being inserted into the nose. While the condition is more likely to be temporary than anything else, there are a few complications that may cause a certain amount of discomfort to the patients daily life. For example, the patient will not be able to sleep properly at night causing sleep apnea or even cause a blockage in the ears, causing slight deafness.

Because of the fact that the condition is a very common one, there are a number of home remedies that will help you deal with the condition to a certain extent. For example, you could try placing a teaspoon of cardamom seeds on hot coals and inhale the resulting smoke. Another option would be to prepare a mixture by adding ¼ teaspoon of salt and the same quantity of baking soda to 8 ounces of warm water and using the concoction as a nasal spray. Apply the spray into your nose as regularly as 3 to 4 times everyday for best results. You could also try creating a combination of 1 cup of tomato juice, 1/2 teaspoon of hot sauce, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and a couple of pinches of celery salt to enhance the flavor. Heat the ingredients together and consume the mixture while still hot for best results. One of the simple and yet most effective treatment options would be to simply heat some water and inhale the resulting vapor. Adding eucalyptus to this will only help in boosting the effect of the remedy.
