Reducing High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure or Hypertension as it is commonly known as, is regarded as the silent killer. It is the disease of this modern age. The fast pace of one’s life and the regular mental and even physical pressures which are the result of the increasingly industrialized environments are some of the main causes of high blood pressure.


Blood pressure can be measured with the help of an instrument called the sphygmomanometer. The highest pressure that is reached during each heart beat of a person is called the systolic pressure, and the lowest pressure between two beat of a heart is known as the diastolic pressure. Younger adults are found to have blood pressure at about 120/80.


It increases usually with age, moving even to 160/90. Some of the symptoms of high blood pressure include a pain that one feels in the back of the neck and the head. This may be felt first thing in the morning and will disappear later. One may also feel palpitations and dizziness. Some other signs are frequent urination, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, pain around the heart region and nervous tension.

The causes of high blood pressure are faulty and unhealthy lifestyles and also high levels of stress. Excessive intake of coffee, tea, smoking, alcohol and drugs can also be triggers for high blood pressure. They can lead to the hardening of ones arteries, obesity problems and also diabetes that leads to hypertension. If common salt is imbibed in large quantities then it can also trigger of these conditions. Also if a diet is low in fiber and high in fat it can lead to an unhealthy eating lifestyle.

Some of the home remedies for tackling high blood pressure include eating garlic. Garlic is considered to be a very effective way of reducing high blood pressure. It is found to lower the spasms in the small arteries. It also helps to slow down the pulse rate and also to modify the hearts rhythms. It helps to fight against the symptoms of numbness, dizziness, formation of gas in a person’s digestive tract and shortness of breath. High blood pressure can be tackled with lemon. Lemon is found to be a good food in helping to control high blood pressure. It is a rich source of the Vitamin P which is required in preventing the condition of capillary fragility. Grapefruit is also useful in fighting the condition of high blood pressure. It also contains Vitamin P in large quantities.
