Hirsutism is a rather common and unwanted condition that can severely affect an individual’s aesthetic appeal. Unwanted facial hair is something that is extremely unappealing and is known to cause a substantial amount of
depression in people suffering from the condition. The primary
cause of hirsutism is an imbalance in the hormonal levels of the body that most commonly appears in women around the time of menopause.
Up until that point the estrogen levels – which are the female hormones, are generally the more dominant ones. However, once the process of menopause starts, the estrogen levels in the body slowly recede, thereby allowing the androgen levels, which are the male hormones, to become dominant. Since male hormones are known to carry features like the development of body hair, this tends to occur in women whose hormonal levels are substantially off balance and the male hormone has a very clear and distinct supremacy.
Studies have shown that as many as 70% of all post menopausal women will develop the
symptoms of hirsutism.
Because of the fact that the condition is so common and so unwanted, people from all over the world have developed a number of natural treatment options that help contain the condition to the level where it does not significantly affect your daily life. While shaving is one of the most common methods of hair removal, it is not the most highly recommended one because of the fact that re-growth is rapid and the hair is generally more prominent and darker. The more often you shave, the faster the re-growth tends to occur. Tweezing is a very popular option, but is more effective when dealing with shorter hair. Because the hair is plucked out from its root, the hair strand will take significantly longer to grow back. Electrolysis is a much more permanent way of dealing with unwanted facial hair. However, while not being very painful, it requires the use of some electricity being passed through the strand of the hair, killing it at the root. The dead hair will subsequently fall off the body. The main drawback of this method is the fact that each strand of hair has to be dealt with individually – making it a very long and sometimes tiring process. Laser hair removal is an increasingly popular method as it is a completely permanent solution in that it removes the root of the hair – preventing any future growth. However, one must make sure that they consult a trained professional to conduct the treatment.
