It is the most awaited time of the year again and here comes the sun shining in its fullest glory. But are you ready for the heat of the summer? Here are some ways that you can beat the heat and enjoy the season at its fullest.

  1. Even if you love the summer and how the sun shines down on you, remember that the ultraviolet rays of the sun are potentially harmful to your skin. So, stay out of direct sun as much as you can. Whenever you need to be outdoors, never forget to put on a generous amount of sunblock.

  2. Drink lots and lots of water, even if you do not feel thirsty at all. Remember that during summer, your body sweats heaps so you need to replenish it as much as you can. Carry some water in your bag wherever you go.

  3. Take in as much fruits and vegetables as you can. These are cooling foods that can help adjust your body temperature and provide protection against the long, hot summer days. Cooling fruits that you can eat are apples, berries, watermelon, orange, peach, and pears. You can also take in lots of broccoli, cabbage, celery, corn, potato, tofu, zucchini and bitter greens. You would have to agree that fruit juices are most delicious during the summer! Foods that are too oily and fatty are definitely no-no's.
  4. Dress summery! Loose and thin clothes are best to wear during the summer. Temporarily forget about form-fitting fashions, polyester and rayon, and think linen, cotton and silk. Dress in light-colored and light-weight for most comfort.
  5. Summer is never a good time to wear full face makeup. It prevents your skin from breathing the way it should. Try to use some tinted moisturizer and avoid oil-triggering matte makeup. Most cosmetic companies now offer Sun Protection Factors (SPF) in their product lines so find the best one for you and use it.
  6. The heat of the summer is not an excuse for stopping exercise. Keep yourself fit and healthy by doing indoor exercises. If you need to go outdoors for your regular dose of jogging, try to do it early in the morning or just right before sunset.
  7. Are you torn between getting a tan or not and need our opinion? Well, our answer would be a no! The propensity for skin cancer has now increased greatly especially in teens and women in their twenties, and sun tanning is believed to be one of the major causes. If you want that beautiful tan, you can go for self-tanners that are widely available in the market.
  8. Slap on a hat. Hats are very fashionable in the summer. You can go for wide brims or opt for baseball caps to keep the sun out of your face. Choose a hat that best enhances your outfit and fits your mood. A dark-colored umbrella and wearing sunglasses can also effectively protect you from the harmful UV rays.
  9. Take more baths and showers. Water conducts the heat away from your body. So, make sure you stay fresh, healthy and happy with regular refreshing baths.
  10. By all means, use your air conditioner. If the temperature reaches the 90's (farenheit), a regular electric fan will not do you any good anymore. Turn on that air conditioner or if you do not have one, go to and stay in a place where there is.
