Oily Hair Home Remedies

by Sharon Hopkins

Oily hair usually has a shine that may not be very nice to look at. Sebum production in the scalp is one of the main causes of oily hair. Some people have naturally oily hair while others do not face this problem.

Oily hair tends to be problematic when it comes to styling and cleanliness as well. The sticky nature of the hair means that passing dust particles in the air tend to get stuck to the hair of the individual suffering from oily hair. Oily hair also carries more weight which makes it appear dull and heavy.

It is also difficult to comb or style hair that is oily.

When one seeks oily hair home remedies one need not go too far in search of such a solution. Skin tends to be dried when one uses soap to wash it. The same will apply for oily hair. One can use a normal shampoo but one must wash one’s hair regularly instead of every two, three or four days. Regular washing of the hair is not good when the hair is thin and dry. However, for thick, oily hair, regular washing is one of the simplest oily hair home remedies. There are even specific shampoos available that help with oily hair and are designed to suit this condition. Another option is too seek less conventional oily hair home remedies.

One unconventional treatment for oily scalp is to use diluted tea. Tea is known to reduce the oiliness in the hair when the hair is washed with it.

Both these methods and most other oily hair home remedies are remedial measures that cure the problem once it has occurred. The ideal solution for oily hair is to seek the underlying cause of the problem. An individual suffering from oily hair and oily skin may not be properly nourished and hydrated. The sebum and sweat that flows onto the skin may be more concentrated in this case which causes the hair to appear oily. Under normal circumstances, the individual’s hydration levels would help dilute these fluids and ensure that the hair is both healthy and oil free.

Healthy hair is hair that is neither too oily nor too dry. Another option to boost the health of the hair is to try scalp massages. A scalp massage is a useful relaxation tool that an individual can try and use. It could either be self administered or could be administered by a helpful friend or family member. Better circulation in the scalp would also help improve hair condition.
