While some home remedies may be effective in treating aches and pains in the neck and shoulders, it is advisable to consult a doctor or a chiropractor, to gauge the actual reason behind the pain. It is best to get a professional’s opinion on whether the pain can be treated with massage therapy and other self care options, or if medical intervention is required. In case the cause of the pain is not too serious, the doctor may suggest the use of home remedies to deal with it.

Some people place a towel that has been rolled up, when they sit on a chair for extended hours. To avoid a stiff neck and shoulder, it is important to choose the right pillow that provides adequate support to the neck, while sleeping.
