Relief from Constipation

Relief from Constipation

It is fairly simple to get relief from constipation but you would need to first understand the underlying cause of the constipation. One of the best ways to get relief from constipation is to increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Fruits, vegetables, polycarbophil, synthetic methyl cellulose, psyllium seed and wheat and oat bran are all good sources of fiber.

Other ways of getting relief from constipation include the use of emollient laxatives (stool softeners), Hyperosmolar laxatives (undigested, unabsorbed compounds that remain in the colon and retain the water that is already there), enemas, stimulant and saline laxatives, suppositories, lubricant laxatives, prescribed drugs and exercise. In certain cases, surgery might also be an option.

Constipation is often a side effect that accompanies pregnancy.

This is due to hormonal changes, the pressure from the growing baby and also changes in diet. An excellent remedy for constipation relief during pregnancy is to drink plenty of high fiber drinks or water. Increasing one’s fiber intake is necessary too. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and leafy green vegetables, cereal and whole grain breads. Drinking prune juice or eating prunes helps as well. Exercise also helps to stimulate the bowels and prevent constipation. If the constipation is due to the iron supplements you are taking, inform your doctor who may then prescribe an alternative.

If you wish to get instant relief from constipation, you should drink at least 8-10 glasses of warm water a day. Water helps to flush out toxins and keeps your body healthy too. Increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Make sure to include plenty of vegetables and fruit. Avoid bread, cheese, processed foods and red meat. Vegetables that could be very useful include peas, spinach, green beans, spinach, kidney beans, broccoli, and whole grains too. Try rubbing your abdomen slowly for about 10-15 minutes. This also helps in getting quick relief from constipation. Exercise regularly if you are constipated. Exercise helps the food to move faster in the bowels. A common home remedy is to mix lemon juice in water and to drink the mixture. Add two tablespoons of castor oil in warm milk. Drink this mixture every alternate day. Sesame seeds can be used as a supplement for roughage. Mix half an ounce of sesame seeds with warm water and drink this. Honey is also a good laxative. Have one spoonful of honey thrice a day to get relief from constipation. The above points would all be helpful if you ever question yourself on how to get relief from constipation.
