Tips for Straightening Hair

by Sharon Hopkins
Hair straightening is a process where the hair, particularly of a woman, is made to fall straight down in order to enhance the appearance of the hair. Every woman will have a different type of hair quality which is based on their genetics and on the way in which their hair has been taken care of. The quality of hair also depends on factors such as nutrition, health and on environmental factors such as heat and humidity.

Some women have straight hair naturally and do not need to do anything drastic to make their hair grow straight, while others might spend a lot of money on hair care products and straightening sessions at the beauty parlor. There are some tips that all people can follow in order to make their hair appear straighter and healthier.

The first thing to do with one’s hair is to make the hair healthy.

Light shampoos are better than strong ones as they are likely to do less damage to the hair. Combining the shampoo with a conditioner will help to strengthen the hair and allow it to appear shiny throughout the day. When drying one’s hair, make sure that it is blow dried and is done while straightening the hair. This is similar to the logic of applying heat while ironing clothes. However, using a hair iron might result in too much heat being applied which can cause irreversible damage to the hair. Hair damaged due to excessive use of a straightening iron does not recover. One has to wait for the hair to grow out and be replaced by fresh hair, a process which takes a long time.

Hair should be combed regularly. People with hair that has a tendency to knot should try and make sure that they comb many times during the day to avoid such knots from forming. This will help to ‘train’ the hair to be straight if it is regularly combed back into the straight position. It is also important to maintain one’s hair continuously. If one is diligent with hair combing, washing and straightening after washing, every successive wash should result in straighter and healthier hair. When combing, it is necessary to be careful to avoid aggressive combing as this may cause healthy hair to be pulled out of the scalp. Good physical health is also linked with good hair health. People who have a proper vitamin balance are likely to grow healthy hair on their head.
